Bairds Room 2 visit the snow!
On Tuesday 26th June 2012 Bairds Room 2 made a trip over the Harbour Bridge to Silverdale. There they found some very cold, white, wet stuff they call SNOW! Toboganning was the chosen sport of the day, although running and playing were also great fun too.
The white hill of Snowplanet.
We had to wear warm boots so we could feel our toes at the end of the session. We also had to wear several layers and a hat and some gloves.
Dylan liked climbing. First of all he trained on the toboggan run before conquering the highest peak and getting all the way to the top of Snowplanet.....our very own Edmund Hillary.
Henry and Manuel were not so keen on the cold of the snow...it was -3 degrees in there....preferring to watch out the window from warmth of the cafe.
Arnold however was happy to watch from inside the snowdome, watching all the learners master the art of snowboarding. The button lifts were quite interesting too.
But getting down and playing with the diggers was great fun too, as long as you have a cushion to sit on!
Dion spent a whole hour and a half walking up and tobogganing down...what a great way to stay fit! He worked out how to go faster, how to stop and was brilliant at waiting his turn at the top of the slope.
And after all that snow fun he found his next adventure in the rental room....a ski bike!
We took the two AUT Physio students with us, they both really enjoyed themselves.
We were so hungry afterwards we couldn't wait to have our lunch. We got a special room so it felt like we were in an igloo. The best part was we could see out onto the snow and still watch everyone zooming down the slope.
Bairds Room 2 visited Snowplanet to coincide with the learning they had been doing around the weather. Many weathers were seen in one day...Auckland at it's best...rain, sun and snow! It was a very physical day so all the bodies muscles were worked out and a few of the children were ready to sleep before the taxi's even arrived! All the senses were triggered and it was soon clear to staff if which children were lovers of the cold!
What fun we had!!
